Reza’s and Wishbone’s—both in Chicago…Hogates’ in DC.All are EQUALLY memorable-and far beyond the run of the mill 5 star restaurants.
Reza’s is gourmet Iranian food-and INCREDIBLE
Wishbone’s is also one of Opra’s favorites–so don’t stare and gawk like a tourist and let the woman eat. Wishbone’s has gourmet of the Southern Reconstruction-haven’t been there for lunch or dinner but brunch/ breakfast corn cake pancakes-have fresh corn in them&orange juice is fresh squeezed….it’s not definitely not McDonalds-and long the line to get in shows how good it is..I even have the t-shirt.
If you’re lucky-you may even catch a cab driven by Ray St Ray,the singing cab driver…who will make up songs and sing them on the spot as you wisk though town-offering choices such as-love song, sad songs, mystical songs,approach/avoidance songs–the man’s imagination and singing while zipping through traffic is astounding. You can’t call and request him–it’s the luck of the draw-but you may catch him near the Hard Rock Cafe-or the Rock&Roll McDonald’s-if you want a lower priced menu.
Hogate’s Seafood Restaurant-slso incredible-found on the Tidal Basin in DC..and behave-you may be eating in tables next to Congressmen and Foreign Ambasadors
Well thare have been alot of good resturants but I don`t know what would be my favorite. I am a picky eater and I think that Macaroni Grill or Olive Garden.
I cannot remember the name, it was at the top of the Intercontinental Hotel in Athens. I have several other very close runners up and one of the local ones would be Flagstaff House in Boulder, CO.
Kanpai of Tokyo…(A teppanyaki style restaurant!!!) The flaming shrimp appetizer there is AWESOME!!! I love fried rice and white sauce. Or tony’s: a little italian place over in Chattanooga, TN. They have THE BEST lasagna. OR… Taco Bell…. Chicken Quesadilla.
In 1999 I ate at Deerpark located on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. and it was an amazing experience. I also took a tour of the kitchen with the chef and was very impressed. I had a Salsify Crusted Salmon which is obviously no longer on the menu but if you are ever in the neighboorhood you should check it out.
I’m also a big fan of a lesser known chef by the name of Dave Jones formerly of Log Haven Restaurant (http://www.log-haven.com/) in Salt Lake City and now chef of the Hotel Monaco in SLC (http://www.bambara-slc.com/). He trained under Wolfgang Puck before W.P. was a household name. Again if your in town for Sundance Film Festival or some other Winter Wonderland Outing stop in and say hello
I was fortunate enough to have had my birthday dinner at Taillevant in Paris a few years ago. The experience of dining at a restaurant with 3 Michelin stars was amazing! My brother, who is a chef and cookbook author himself, and I could not find a single flaw with our meal. I didn’t want to eat for 2 days after. Not because I was full, but because everything about the meal was so perfect that I didn’t want to sully my pallette!
